Art does not reproduce what we see. It makes us see.
Paul klee
WORDS like images and the creation of visual artworks are my thoughts, inspirations, imagining, reflections. The Trace of Being and Defender Series motifs honour the lives and memory of women universally. Broadly, the art works draw on emotions and memory of living within an environment overshadowed by domestic abuse and violence. The motifs I have used raise concerns about women, mothers, life, death, chaos, endurance, equality, beauty and strength. The repetition and complexities within the motifs also present a response to an ongoing exploration of the human condition, temporality and change.

Suicide catastrophically ended my mother’s life in 1971. She was 39 years old. It happened only days before she was due to give birth to her next child. A double tragedy. Sadly, and so tragic her death followed many years of physical and psychological abuse. This type of abuse is known as domestic violence, family violence or domestic abuse.
